What is Hot swapable ?


Hot swapping and hot plugging are terms used to describe the functions of replacing computer system components without shutting down the system. More specifically, hot swapping describes replacing components without significant interruption to the system, while hot plugging describes the addition of components that would expand the system without significant interruption to the operation of the system.Once the appropriate software is installed on the computer, a user can plug and unplug the component without rebooting.

Hot swaping is used to describe the function of replacing the computer system devices without swithching off the system.it allows users to remove the faulty H.D.D/devices and insert a new HDD/devices with out swithch off the power of the server.

In servers you can see hot swapable SMPS,HDD and RAM.if you using multiple smps then only you can use hot swapping.In blade server this facility is their.if your working with hot swapable smps or hdd that allow you to repair the damaged hdd/device  or replace new hdd/device.In server we no need to worry about data lossing why because every servers we are configuring RAID.It is a fault tolerant  method  to prevent data losses and increase  performance of HDD.
