How to configure DNS master for ADDS in Windows server 2008
Hi,here i am explaining about DNS master configuration(if your configure DNS after ADDS you can follow this step,but if your configure DNS without ADDS you need to install the role of DNS server from server manager(i will add this later ).)
1.After logon to Administrator
2.Click on Administrative tools-->>DNS (other wise goto Run type dnsmgmt.msc)
3.Now it show you computer name open that one you can see
a).Global logs
b).Forward lookup zones:-it convert names to ip eg:you domain name is google.com if you type it in your browser it point to your ip (192.168.1.100)
c).Reverse lookup zones-:it convert ip to names:if your type 192.168.1.100 the it find the DNS and point to that doamin(google.com)
d).Conditional forwarders
In this case we are aleady installed the ADDS thats why it automatically configure the Forward lookup zone.you need to configure reverse lookup zones
3.R-click on Reverse lookup zones-->>click on create new zone-->>click on next select primary zone(other options just refer DNS master/slaver configuration on my blog)
4.Click on next-->>select ipv4 lookupzone -->>next -->>now you can see Network ID:type your ip first 3 digits eg:your ip is 192.168.1.100 then type 192.168.1
5.Click on Next --->>click on allow only secure update(default)-->>next-->>finish
6.Open that reverse lookup zone then you can see 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa--->>open that one-->>now we want to update pointer in to the reverse lookupzone
7.For updating that pointer goto Forword lookup zones-->>open your domain(google.com)-->>here it show some records you can see your computer name(SAN is my computer name
host(A) 192.168.1.100 static )double click on this one
8.Now you can see update the assosiat pointer--->>tick on that one ok.
9.Go to Reverse lookup zones check the pointer under 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa(if it is not their,Click on refresh icon(press f5))
